Comedy Bang! Bang! fans worried that the show’s recent casting changes might have disrupted Scott Aukerman and company’s finely honed comedy rhythms can put their minds at ease. Despite the fact that “Weird” Al Yankovic is now the man behind the bandleader’s keyboard (and the voice on the latest iteration of the show’s dreamy, scatty theme song), the new season of the series is still packed to the brim with random celebrity references, cartoonish sound effects, and bizarre cameos and walk-ons—at least, if the recently released season premiere is anything to go by.
IFC has placed the first episode of the show’s fifth season online, ahead of its TV premiere next Friday night. Featuring appearances from Kevin Bacon, Haley Joel Osment, and Leonardo DiCaprio (or at least his publicist, as played by Ben Schwartz), it’s pretty standard CB!B! fare, complete with cartoon clouds, mythological creatures, and Scott contracting a case of “Dragon Fever” from his lucky pot of gold. Also, you don’t have to worry about spoiling a whole night of the show for yourself if you watch this sneak peek, because IFC’s apparently planning on airing it back to back with the second episode of the season, when the series returns at 11 p.m. next week.
