“Slythering,” “Huff-n-puff,” and “Gryffindorn” are just a few of the things NHL players come up with when asked to name the four Hogwarts Houses from Harry Potter. As part of the ongoing “Puck Personality” series on the NHL’s YouTube channel, players like Justin Williams, T.J. Oshie, and Ryan McDonagh were asked to recall the names of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. And although Harry Potter remains a massively popular book and film series, few players are up for the challenge. (And lest we chalk that up to generational bias, they similarly struggled to name the Beatles as well.)

Strangely, many players remember Hufflepuff (the one with no personality) before they remember Gryffindor, arguably the most famous of the four, and perhaps tellingly, virtually none of them are able to remember the academically-minded house Ravenclaw. And while Winnipeg Jets Forward Blake Wheeler is clearly pretending to struggle in order to keep up his street cred, Kyle Okposo is all too happy to let his nerd flag fly.
