We learned last month that Netflix would be helping Pee-wee Herman realize a new film, one that would presumably not see James Brolin as Pee-wee astride the X-1. Since then, however, the Pee-wee rumor mill has been as quiet as a furtively whispering Amazing Larry. But now Deadline is reporting that True Blood’s Tara Buck will be joining Pee-wee’s Big Holiday in an unspecified role.
As Ginger, the glamoured-stupid bartender of Fangtasia, Buck fell prey to the strange whims of pale, ageless beings, as well as regularly mopping up piles of ichor and gore that rival the worst accident Large Marge had ever seen. With that type of on-the-job experience, nobody can say that Buck hasn’t spent years preparing to be in a Pee-wee movie.
Meanwhile, there isn’t much else known about the movie, except that it will see Pee-wee Herman meeting a stranger who inspires him to take his titular holiday. The Glen plaid-clad sexagenarian crisscrossed the country once already looking for his bike, so who knows where he’ll end up booking his trip? The basement of Mount Rushmore?
As production ramps up, hopefully Netflix will regularly engage us with more news about the project—posting spoilers, misdirection, and playing tricks on us. We’ll play tricks back! It’ll be like unraveling a big cable-knit sweater that someone keeps knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting…
