Starz has announced that it will begin carrying Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood next season, ordering up 10 episodes of the sci-fi series to slot alongside its burgeoning original programming slate. The new installment of the series—which has been dormant since 2009, and which recently narrowly dodged a doomed-to-fail “American version” to be toyed with then summarily discarded by Fox—will pick up where it last left off in summer 2011, with the original showrunner and cast in place alongside a few new characters and what’s been described as a new “international scope,” one that takes full “advantage of the unlimited narrative opportunities of a premium television service like Starz,” said a guy who works for Starz.
