Some 16 years after You’ve Got Mail, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are set to reunite again for the silver screen. There’s a catch, though: They won’t actually appear on screen together. Hanks will produce Ithaca, Ryan’s directorial debut. Based on William Saroyan’s novel The Human Comedy, the film tells the story of 14-year-old Ithaca-based Homer Macauley, who longs to become the best telegraph messenger the world of bicycling has ever seen. As the word “telegraph” might suggest, the film is set in the not-so-distant past, with poor Homer being tasked with delivering messages to anxious parents and loved ones during WWII. If all this isn't already sentimental enough, Ryan will also star in the film alongside her son, Jack Quaid, and friend Melanie Griffith. Production on the film should start this summer.
