What with the “cougar” slowly receding and “friends with benefits” suffering from premature over-saturation (check out the similarly just-released trailer for the Natalie Portman/Ashton Kutcher-starring No Strings Attached for an example), the next hot sexual-“trend”-that-exists-solely-in-movies-and-the-New-York-Times-lifestyle-section might just be the “monogamy time out.” Last night’s 30 Rock introduced us to the “Gentleman’s Intermission,” and today comes the trailer for the Farrelly Brothers’ Hall Pass, which finds Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis as two married bros who want to have sex with ladies besides Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate for some reason, so their wives grant them a week to do whatever they want with no repercussions.
Naturally, what they want is to have sex. They want to have all of the sex. So they gather the most unlikely group of movie friends ever assembled—a posse that includes Stephen Merchant and JB Smoove—and seek advice from a nearly unrecognizable Richard Jenkins as a bling-bedecked lothario as they hit up the ladies, with various comical and occasionally topless results. Think they eventually realize that being married to and having regular relations with Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate might not be so bad?
