Manchester By The Sea

The National Board Of Review has announced the winners of its end-of-the-year film awards for 2016, and though the Best Film winner doesn’t have nearly as many post-apocalyptic car chases or flame-throwing guitars as last year’s pick, it still seems like a good choice. The film in question is Manchester By The Sea, and in yet another teaser for the rest of awards season, the National Board of Review honored both it and Moonlight multiple times.

In addition to winning Best Film, Manchester By The Sea’s writer/director Kenneth Lonergan won Best Original Screenplay, star Casey Affleck won Best Actor, and Lucas Hedges won the Breakthrough Performance award. Elsewhere, Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins and Naomie Harris won Best Director and Best Supporting Actress (respectively), Kubo And The Two Strings won Best Animated Feature, Amy Adams won Best Actress for Arrival, and Jeff Bridges won Best Supporting Actor for Hell Or High Water.
