Serial helped usher in the age of podcasts with its thorough, often frustrating investigation into the murder of Hae Min Lee, who was suspected to have been murdered by her high school boyfriend, Adnan Syed. Syed was convicted of the murder in 1999, but the podcast helped draw eyes to what many believe was a wrongful conviction, resulting in an appeal and a new trial. And, though Serial may have moved on, his case has continued to be chronicled.

The latest developments will be explored in HBO’s four-part docuseries, The Case Against Adnan Syed. It’s been in production since 2015, and will reportedly provide a fresh pass on the evidence uncovered by Serial while also telling the story behind Syed’s ongoing legal battles. “I know there are things that don’t look good for me,” Syed says in the above trailer’s closing moments. Could the docuseries change that? Find out when it debuts this spring.
