Though the now-kaput Ween was known for its sunny, absolutely weird tracks, one-time duo member Gene Ween has outdone his sunshiny self on his new solo effort as Freeman. Out July 22 on Partisan Records, the self-titled Freeman LP addresses Aaron Freeman/Gene Ween’s battle with substance abuse, with tracks like “Covert Discretion” telling fans to “Save [their] judgments for someone else” and to “be grateful I saved me from myself.” Below, The A.V. Club is premiering “The English And Western Stallion,” another song from the record that’s sure to delight even the most fair-weather Ween-ers.

Freeman is available for pre-order now via Partisan Records. The group is on tour this fall, and dates are below.
