Notoriously hasty director Terrence Malick is known for his recklessly slapdash approach to filmmaking, throwing together a new movie every decade or so, but lately he seems to be intent on lapping his usual breakneck pace. Having just completed The Tree Of Life, he’s already prepping Voyage Of Time, an IMAX spinoff containing all of the dramatic dinosaurs-and-lava sequences he couldn’t fit into the former, an as-yet-untitled drama with Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Javier Bardem, and Rachel Weisz that’s currently in postproduction, and now, a new film with Christian Bale, his former collaborator on The New World. According to Twitch, the film due to begin shooting next year will be a smaller, more intimate drama centered on Bale and his yet-to-be-cast female lead, with Rooney Mara and Mia Wasikowska among those in contention for the role. Given Malick’s suddenly renewed burst of energy, expect to see it as soon as a year or two from now, arriving as a rocketing blur indiscernible to the human eye. [via The Playlist]
