TBS orders Conan O’Brien-approved animated comedy Final Space

Perhaps realizing that even new episodes of American Dad! aren’t enough to fill its animation needs, TBS has ordered a cartoon space saga from Olan Rogers, whom you might know from any one of a number of shorts like Mega Man X or The Right Stuff. If that’s not quite ringing a bell, don’t worry, because all you really need to know is that his series, Final Space, comes with the approval of a certain towering carrot-topped late night host. That’s right, Conan O’Brien is producing (through Conaco) along with New Form, Rogers, and Turner’s Studio T.

Final Space follows Gary, an astronaut with an “adorable, planet-destroying friend” named Mooncake as they make their way to the end of the universe, i.e., the final space. The serialized show will see them run into aliens, androids, and the like. The series has been green-lit and is expected to premiere in 2017 with another animated offering titled Tarantula. Rogers created a pilot earlier this year, which caught O’Brien’s eye.
