Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Atlanta writer and producer Stephen Glover teased that the show will try to tell some more female-centric stories in its recently announced third season, saying he and the other writers “have some cool ideas in season three that’ll put some more women on screen.” He doesn’t go into specifics, but he says “there’s a very specific perspective from the Atlanta woman that I think we’re gonna explore in season three.” That should be a nice change of pace, as THR notes that the show has primarily featured male perspectives—both in terms of its stars and its writers.

This past season had one episode (“Champagne Papi”) that was solely dedicated to Zazie Beetz’s Van, the one female lead on Atlanta, and she’d definitely like to tell more stories like that. She told THR that “there’s no lack of women on the set,” but she enjoyed the “girl vibe” of that episode and would like to explore the storytelling possibilities of “bonding with a woman and playing with that energy in terms of Van’s character.”

Other than that, Stephen Glover mentioned that the writers “left a lot of things in the air” when they were making the second season, so he’s hoping to go back to some of those ideas they didn’t have time to get to in the third season.
