Many people’s first reactions, upon hearing an actor like John Boyega smugly declaring that those opposed to black Stormtroopers need to “get used to it,” would be to remark that, in today’s society, such a sentiment is so mainstream that it barely needs to be spoken aloud. “Seriously, who’s still mad about black people in Star Wars?,” you may ask. Well, our collective question has been answered thanks to a hashtag that was started earlier today, #BoycottStarWarsVII.
And they’re not just mad about black people! Turns out they’re none too fond of Jewish movie directors, or Jewish people in general. We’ve declined to embed the most virulently racist and anti-Semitic examples we could find below, but rest assured that gorillas and big noses feature prominently in the imagery. Instead, let’s all have a good chuckle at the spambots trying to get in on this trend, shall we?:

Hoo, boy. Never change, spambots. Besides—as many people have already pointed out—the fact that Billy Dee Williams, James Earl Jones, and Samuel L. Jackson would like to have a word with these people, it should be noted that many of the most passionate #BoycottStarWarsVII tweets are coming from a small number of Twitter accounts. Maybe we’re optimists, but we like to think it’s at least remotely possible there’s a small group of trolls somewhere laughing hysterically at all the fuss they’ve caused, as opposed to the organic outpouring of bigotry this appears to be on the surface. If so, congrats, guys. You did it. See you in our Twitter notifications!
