The Host

According to Deadline, a cast has come together and principle photography has begun on Bong Joon-ho’s new Netflix film, titled Okja. Known to many Americans as the guy who made that weird frozen train movie and allowed the horrifying phrase “babies taste best” to be uttered aloud, a decade ago Bong was recognized worldwide for his South Korean monster film The Host. Although his best films are probably Memories Of Murder and Mother, with The Host Bong proved that he could aptly marry spectacle with endearing characters. It’s something that likely will serve him well with Okja, a movie about a young girl (Seohyun An) protecting a massive animal from a powerful, multi-national corporation.

Leading the cast of Okja are Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Paul Dano. Also appearing are Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Lily Collins (To The Bone), Devon Bostick (The 100), Byun Heebong (The Host), Shirley Henderson (Anna Karenina), Daniel Henshall (The Babadook), Yoon Je Moon (Mother), and Choi Wooshik (Set Me Free). The film will be shot in South Korea, Canada, and the United States, in both English and Korean. Okja will appear globally on Netflix sometime in 2017 and also will have a limited theatrical run in the U.S.; Netflix is also looking for theatrical partners for a silver-screen release in international territories.
