Bowing to years of pressure from anti-smoking advocacy groups, the MPAA announced today that movies featuring smoking will be subject to higher ratings. In the past, depiction of illegal teen smoking has factored into a movie's rating, but according to the MPAA's statement:

"Now, all smoking will be considered, and depictions that glamorize smoking or movies that feature pervasive smoking outside of an historic or other mitigating context may receive a higher rating."
