For its fourth album, At This Age, Signals Midwest recruited Evan Weiss (Into It. Over It., Pet Symmetry) to produce the record. It’s a pairing that makes sense, as Signals Midwest has always made distinctly artful post-hardcore, and Weiss’ production credits show he’s got a knack for pulling the best out of the bands he works with. On “Alchemy Hour,” which The A.V. Club is streaming below, Signals Midwest sounds more refined than ever before. The song recalls the best parts of later-era Small Brown Bike records, soft and introspective when it needs to be but still capable of busting into a burly riff.

At This Age is available for pre-order now and will be released on September 2 on Tiny Engines.
