While the likelihood of any sort of Justice League movie remains an open question, at least one potential star has expressed doubt about joining the film that isn’t officially happening yet, preemptively turning down an offer that hasn’t been made, in what everyone will now politely pretend could be considered another setback. Ryan Reynolds tells Empire he has “very little interest” in reprising the role of Green Lantern in any Justice League project, saying his experience on the 2011 film showed him “how difficult it is to make that concept palatable, and how confused it all can be when you don't really know exactly where you're going with it or you don't really know how to access that world properly—that world comic book fans have been accessing for decades and falling in love with,” and then how terrible it can be when you just do it anyway and put it out in theaters.

But Reynolds, citing both Joss Whedon and Christopher Nolan as directors who “nail it,” suggests an equally “great script and a good director can always turn that around” and interest him again. So Warner Bros. will obviously have to work, really really hard to satisfy the conditions under which Ryan Reynolds will reprise Green Lantern, otherwise no one will ever get what we’ll just pretend they want, to be nice.
