Despite some mixed reactions to last year’s performance, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association still has a hosting gig hard-on for Ricky Gervais, asking him to once again preside over the next Golden Globes. As Variety points out, it’s “an astonishing nine months” before the January 2011 ceremony, which means they must really, really want him. Gervais was quoted as saying, “I can't believe they invited me back after awful things I said. Let's see how far I can go this time." A slightly exaggerated statement, considering we don’t remember Gervais being all that controversial, outside of a couple of well-timed digs at Mel Gibson and Paul McCartney and a masturbation joke that didn’t seem to go over that well. But looking back at reviews, he was apparently “risqué,” so, uh, kudos to the HFPA for having a sense of humor.
