Finally free of the terrible prophecy that said Bob Saget would one day hijack his vocal cords to bore his children to death with nine year’s worth of funny anecdotes, How I Met Your Mother Star Josh Radnor has signed on for the starring role in NBC’s new series Drama High. Radnor would play Lou Mazzuchelli—based on real-life drama teacher Lou Volpe—a father of three who has to “discover his own passion, drive and charisma” when he takes over a struggling high school drama department.

Radnor—who’s spent his post-Mother year about as far from Ted Mosby as he could possibly get, over on PBS’s Civil War drama Mercy Street—joins a cast that includes Rosie Perez, Moana’s Auli’i Cravalho, and Rarmian Newton (plus a recurring part for Stranger Things’ Shannon Purser). Drama High is based on a book of the same name by Michael Sokolove, who studied under the real Volpe, and is being produced by Hamilton’s Jeffrey Seller and Friday Night Lights showrunner Jason Katims.
