Russell Crowe has signed on to play the mayor of New York in What Mike Bloomberg Sees In The Mirror the upcoming Broken City, at last putting Crowe’s natural skills of diplomacy and glad-handing to good use in the field of pretend politics. The film (a leftover from the same 2008 Black List that previously gave us Up In The Air, Inglourious Basterds, and Nowhere Boy) co-stars Mark Wahlberg as a private eye who’s hired by Crowe’s character to investigate whether his wife is cheating on him. Naturally, the case leads to murder, real estate-related scandals, revelations of conspiracies that go all the way to the top, and so on. In a standoff between Crowe’s contemptuous slow burn and Wahlberg’s gradually escalating exasperation, who will win?
