The eighth and final season of Portlandia will feature some guests familiar to fans of other shows where bewigged comedians make absurdist jokes from a narrowly regional frame of reference. According to photos on Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein’s personal Instagrams, their feminist bookstore characters Candace and Toni will have a run-in Gil Faizon and George St. Geegland—the Oh, Hello alter egos of Nick Kroll and John Mulaney, previously of Kroll Show and late of Broadway.

There’s been no indication what Gil and George might be doing so far from the Upper West Side, or whether theirs will be a meaningful narrative encounter, or just some kind of quick cameo concerning tuna for the 500 comedy nerds who will appreciate it. But the larger implication, of course, is that Portlandia, Oh, Hello, and Kroll Show now officially occupy a shared universe. That’s canon now. That’s canon.
