Old Gray practices patience with Slow Burn, the first song from its new record

Last week, New Hampshire screamo outfit Old Gray announced Slow Burn, the band’s second full-length album. During the course of the band’s five-year existence, it’s played with the genre’s form more than most, opting not to see the interplay between screamo’s loud/quiet dynamics as something limiting, but as a sound that’s endlessly expansive. This broad perspective is aided by the fact that Old Gray guitarist-vocalist, Cameron Boucher, is a musical journeyman: In addition to also playing in the pop-punk act Sorority Noise, and releasing dour covers under his own name, he’s been behind the boards on records that only highlight his range.

Today, The A.V. Club is streaming the first song from Slow Burn, the raging “Everything Is In Your Hands.” It’s a song that shows what Old Gray does so well, as the band runs plainspoken vocals against piercing screams while pushing a staccato, stop-start riff toward a cathartic conclusion. The album, which was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Boucher, will also see him releasing it on his newly minted Flower Girl Records. Pre-orders for the album are available now, and through Dog Knights Productions in Europe, and the band’s upcoming tour dates can be found below.
