Now You See Me 2

According to Variety, Jon M. Chu, director of the forthcoming Now You See Me 2, has already signed on to direct Now You See Me 3, yet another story about magicians who demand to be taken seriously.

Although the first Now You See Me film, directed by Louis Leterrier, received mixed critical reviews, its box office tally was $351.7 million, which is impressive considering that it doesn’t feature a single superhero or star war. As a result, Lionsgate is so optimistic about the performance of the sequel that it is already working on a third entry in the series.

Details about the third film are scarce, possibly because they would ruin the twists of the second film. But it’s a safe bet that the Four Horsemen will face off with a particularly cunning antagonist and as a result must graduate from robbing banks to executing Sandiegan tasks like stealing the Statue of Liberty or the Great Pyramid of Giza.

The Now You See Me films fit snugly into Chu’s body of work, which consists almost entirely of sequels ranging from Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D to G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Now You See Me 2 hits theaters on June 10.
