In writing, the rule of thumb is “show, don’t tell.” Perhaps this is the reason why so many writers feel the need to be demonstrative in the actions of others in order to illustrate exactly what they are talking about. As compiled in this montage by Supercut Videos, here are clips from 42 different films in which a character says, “now that’s what I’m talkin’ about!” To be fair, some entries on the list have much bigger screenplay concerns than cliches (looking at you, Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda and Kangaroo Jack). But others, like The Dark Knight or Get Him To The Greek, are real films with real screenwriters behind them and they still rely on this trite phrase.
