Rocko's Modern Life

Opening the door to finally reveal whether or not laundry day is, in fact, a very dangerous day, Nickelodeon has announced that it’s bringing back classic Nicktoon Rocko’s Modern Life for a new TV movie. That’s according to Entertainment Weekly, which says that original series creator Joe Murray is on board as an executive producer and co-director. The report notes that “all of the beloved characters” from the show will return, but a press release sent out by Nickelodeon specifically points out that “additional news of Rocko’s airdate and casting will be announced in the coming months,” which—if we’re being pessimistic—could be taken to mean that not all of the principal cast will be returning.

The original series starred Carlos Alazraqui, Tom Kenny, and Doug “Mr. Lawrence” Osowski as Rocko and his friends, and since all three of them have continued to work in animation in the years since Rocko’s went off the air, we can’t imagine it’d be tough for Nickelodeon to bring them back in some capacity—especially Kenny and Mr. Lawrence, who work on SpongeBob SquarePants together. Interestingly, the Hey Arnold! movie that Nickelodeon announced earlier this year is recasting its main characters, but that’s because they were originally played by children (some of whom will make cameos in the movie).

Anyway, that’s all we know about the Rocko’s Modern Life movie for now, but hopefully it’ll retain the original show’s penchant for unexpectedly adult-oriented humor.
