While the hype surrounding the new Star Trek film builds and builds–allegedly, Tyler freakin' Perry has now joined the cast–this little Trek tidbit slipped by with relatively little fanfare: The first installment of a new, three-part miniseries titled Star Trek: Of Gods And Men was released, as a stream only, on Dec. 22 at startrekofgodsandmen.net. What sets this project apart from the scads of Trek fanflicks that have popped over the years is the fact that the cast, writers, and crew are made up mostly of Trek alumni–including original series vets Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig. The independently produced Of Gods And Men was directed by Tim "Tuvok" Russ of Star Trek: Voyager, who is trying to convince Trek franchise-owner CBS to release it on DVD. As for the film itself, uh… you be the judge. (For the lazy, here's a trailer:)
