In an interview with Billboard, Magnetic Fields mastermind Stephin Merritt, talked about the project's upcoming eighth album Distortion. Turns out the title is pretty apt: Unlike the orchestral, studio-sculpted sound of Fields album past, Merritt says he made the new album quickly and with a full rock band–and lots of "raw and dirty" distorted guitars, which he equates to The Jesus And Mary Chain's noise-pop milestone Psychocandy. The album is due Jan. 15 on Nonesuch.
