According to Variety, Netflix has decided to continue bolstering its collection of original movies with a very expensive action film with some reliable action movie people on board. The movie, Six Underground, will be directed by Michael Bay and will star Ryan Reynolds, with the script coming from Deadpool and Deadpool 2 writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. With that pedigree, then, Six Underground will be as popular as Deadpool and as successful as one of the Transformers movies (except the most recent one, which didnât do super well), which is probably what Netflix is hoping will happen since itâs paying âaround $125 millionâ for the project.
As the Variety story notes, that puts it on the high end of Netflixâs original productions, just under Martin Scorseseâs The Irishman and âon pairâ with Bright. We donât know what the movie is about, but in March we went out on a limb and theorized that itâs about six people who are underground. Also, in a weird note, Variety adds that one of the reasons Reynolds wanted to work with Netflix on this is that he wonât have to deal with âthe world press commitments that a major studio movie like Deadpool requires,â so he can film Six Underground and then immediately forget about it as he moves on to other projects heâs more interested in.
That is how most people treat their jobs, but itâs surprising to hear that a celebrity doesnât actually love appearing on South Korean TV as a singing unicorn.
