NBC is taken with Taken, renews it for another season

NBC’s Taken series—based on the Liam Neeson movies about the guy with particular set of skills whose family keeps getting kidnapped—didn’t exactly set the TV world on fire. But if the movies have any sort of point, it’s that nobody should ever underestimate the guy from Taken. According to Variety, NBC has picked up the show for a second season despite its middling ratings, with the story noting that Taken is relatively cheap to produce and does well internationally, which practically guaranteed a renewal anyway. Things might be slightly different for Taken when it returns, though, as executive producer and showrunner Alexander Cary will be stepping down and leaving the show. A new showrunner hasn’t been announced, but Variety believes that one will be named “shortly.”

The show is a prequel to the Taken movies, with Clive Standen playing a younger version of Green Beret Bryan Mills as he hones those particular skills he’s so proud of in the movies.
