Like many filmmakers, Charlie’s Angel: Full Throttle director McG has found new life on Netflix, his weird The Babysitter having been a modest, early hit for the streamer. Soon, he’ll return with his latest directorial effort, Rim Of The World, which looks like a cross between Stranger Things, Independence Day, and that Simpsons episode where Bart and his friends drive to the Sunsphere.
“Misfit” teenagers Alex, ZhenZhen, Dariush, and Gabriel are thrust into the middle of an alien assault in the above trailer, which finds the foursome gifted with a “key that carries the secret to stopping the invasion.” Along the way, they’re routinely waylaid by explosions, Terror Dog-style aliens, and their own interpersonal squabbles. All that’s missing, honestly, is an Eleven and some references to The Thing. Jack Gore, Miya Cech, Benjamin Flores Jr., Alessio Scalzotto, and Andrew Bachelor headline the cast.
Rim of the World crash-lands on Netflix on May 24.
