Having officially finished her trippy Wayne Coyne phase, Miley Cyrus has released a conventional new single, ”Malibu,” about chilling with a love interest in California. (Said romantic partner, Billboard notes, is presumably Liam Hemsworth.) The video, meanwhile, finds Cyrus traipsing around a beach and a field, hanging in a waterfall, and playing with balloons.
In the interview with Billboard, Cyrus confirmed that the album is indeed “pretty singer-songwriter-y,” as the reporter phrased it, but added: “But not granola. I don’t listen to Ed Sheeran and John Mayer and stuff.“ The visual aesthetic, however, is definitely the stuff of inspirational mood boards.
