It’s been a little while since we checked in with CBS’s four-little-sitcoms-for-the-price-of-one series Life In Pieces, which the network renewed for a second season back in March. The Betsy Brandt and Dan Bakkedahl-starring show got a little buzz at today’s Television Critics Association press tour event, though, with creator Justin Adler announcing that one of comedy-dom’s most beloved couples—Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman—are set to guest star on the show.

The married puzzle fiends—and occasional love advice-providers—will appear as the parents of Hunter King’s teenaged Clementine, who’s apparently gotten married to the son of Bakkedahl and Brandt’s characters since the last time we tuned in to the show. Also, because nothing Mullally and Offerman do together can be entirely normal, the characters will also be brother-and-sister, with Clementine’s mom and her “Uncle Dad” sharing parental duties—and a bedroom. (Separate twin beds though, so that’s a relief.)

Now, having talented performers on hand has never been one of Life In Pieces’ problems—this is a show that stars Colin Hanks, Dianne Wiest, James Brolin, and a number of other powerful comedic voices, and still manages to rarely rise above so-so—but it’s always fun to see Mullally and Offerman together, engaging in their ongoing competition to see who can be “the weird one” and make each other laugh.
