Martha Stewart has reportedly joined us in the 21st century, and it doesn’t sound like she likes what she sees. Yesterday, in a now-deleted Instagram post, Stewart shared the harrowing story of her first-ever Uber ride. Apparently, the rideshare experience from Tiffany’s on Fifth Avenue to her home was not up to the media mogul’s standards, even though she “ordered the most expensive version.” Don’t worry, we promise this story gets relatable at some point.
“The first Uber did not show up. The second Uber came ten minutes later and parked halfway down 57th street where I could not see the license plate,” Stewart writes in her indignant social media post. “Then we were facing east when I had to go west and south. Took twenty minutes to face southwest, etc, etc… On top of it all the car was a mess inside and out!”
First-time rideshare users may be equally appalled at this level of service, but longtime riders know that using these apps is always a crapshoot. Stewart should count herself lucky she didn’t wind up with an overly talkative or aggressive driver on top of everything else. Still, despite her criticisms, Stewart maintains that she was publicly shaming Uber for its own good. “I want Uber to succeed!” she writes at the end of her post, seemingly unaware that the billion-dollar startup already has a near monopoly on the rideshare game.
As mentioned above, the Instagram post detailing Stewart’s trip from hell has since been deleted. So, either her publicist is savvy enough to know this rant is a textbook first-world problem or she got sick of commenters suggesting she try Lyft instead. Regardless, we’re happy to see Martha Stewart taking part in a storied tradition of the common man: Begrudgingly and repeatedly paying too much for a service you hate.
