The Kiefer Sutherland administration is staffing up. ABC’s upcoming conspiracy thriller, Designated Survivor, puts the 24 star in the Oval Office as a low-ranking cabinet member who becomes president after a bombing during the State of the Union wipes out everyone ahead of him in the order of succession.
Now the series has rounded out its cast, with Kal Penn—who left House to work in the real-life White House—as Sutherland’s speech writer and Nikita’s Maggie Q as the FBI agent leading the investigation on the Capitol bombing. (The two also co-starred on season six of 24.) The series has also cast Italia Ricci (Chasing Life, Supergirl) as the White House Chief of Staff. The series is being written by Safe House scribe David Guggenheim, with Lucky Number Slevin and Sherlock director Paul McGuigan behind the camera.
