Emily Browning in Legend

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the central trio of Starz’s American Gods has been completed, as Emily Browning (Legend, Sucker Punch) has just signed on to play Laura Moon on Bryan Fuller and Michael Green’s adaptation of the Neil Gaiman novel. The American Gods author admits that Browning has her work cut out for her as Laura, a woman caught between this world and the next: “Laura is a tricky character, and the Laura on the screen is even trickier and more dangerous than the one on the page.” But Gaiman says he’s been “fascinated” by the actress since her appearance in Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, so he probably has good feeling about her casting.

Browning joins The 100’s Ricky Whittle, who’s taken on the lead as Shadow Moon, Laura’s husband and an ex-con whose life takes a turn for the divine when he becomes a bodyguard to Wednesday. Ian McShane’s been perfectly cast as Wednesday, Gaiman is set to write some of the episodes, and Fuller has even recruited Hannibal director David Slade to helm the pilot. If that’s not enough to pique your interest/bolster your confidence in the show, check out Fuller’s plans for the series, which include finding ways to get multiple seasons out of the book and a man-eating vagina on the small screen.
