Defying expectations that she would retire to Branson and open a dinner theater in the wake of her The Sound Of Music medley at the Oscars, Deadline reports that Lady Gaga has been cast in a lead role on season five of American Horror Story. To the surprise of no one—particularly Glee fans who remember the Lady Gaga tribute episode from the show’s first season—Ryan Murphy is apparently quite the Little Monster, and asked the pop star to appear on the show. “It always just comes down to pure fandom with me,” he tells Variety about his casting process. “I just speak from the heart about why I love them.”

Gaga’s role on the show is being kept tightly under wraps, but we assume it will involve raw meat and rubber gloves somehow. This will be her first major acting gig; she previously appeared in small roles in the Robert Rodriguez movies Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, both of which will appear positively lucid in comparison to whatever craziness Murphy has planned for AHS season five.
