Because an American Horror Story character is not truly a character unless they have a doomed relationship with a creepy object of their affection, Entertainment Weekly reports that Joseph Fiennes is in negotiations to join the cast as Jessica Lange's lover—a May/December romance further complicated by the fact that he's her boss, and the fact that they work at an institution for the criminally insane. But then, who can account for the mysteries of the heart and the way it yearns for another, even amid crazy people masturbating? Were Fiennes to join a cast that also includes Adam Levine, Chloë Sevigny, and James Cromwell alongside returning faces Zachary Quinto, Lily Rabe, Evan Peters, and Sarah Paulson, it would be a reunion of sorts with AHS creator Ryan Murphy, with Fiennes having starred in Murphy's failed 2007 pilot Pretty/Handsome and played a supporting part in Running With Scissors. Somewhat redundantly, EW adds that Fiennes would be playing someone who is "tortured"—which you can probably take literally, considering.
