Despite those early rumors that Russell Crowe was in talks to assume the lead in Jose Padilha’s RoboCop remake, the director has gone with an actor with slightly less circumference necessitating lots of costly steel. Deadline reports that the part has been offered to Joel Kinnaman, who is familiar with both remakes and, with his role on The Killing, being a police officer with a slight speech impediment who grimly wanders through an endless dystopian wasteland devoid of all hope. Presumably Kinnaman’s agreeing to take the part is contingent on whether this new version of RoboCop can accommodate a little goatee.
