Finally, after decades of episodes and a crummy made-for-TV movie, BBC’s Doctor Who is getting its first female incarnation of the old alien in the time-traveling box. We saw a very brief teaser for Jodie Whittaker’s upcoming run as the 13th Doctor for the show’s next season, and today’s Doctor Who Comic-Con panel finally gave us a (brief) chance to see Whittaker’s Doctor in action. The new Doctor seems to have a similar kind of upbeat innocence as the 10th and 11th Doctors, but it remains to be seen if she’ll also have an undercurrent of dangerous darkness like a few of her predecessors did. Either way, it looks like she and her new best friends—who we met a few months ago—are going to be having a lot of fun.

One interesting thing that’s not in this trailer is a bad guy. There’s no Daleks and no Cybermen, just the new Doctor and her new pals. Considering that this is the first year with Whittaker’s Doctor and new showrunner Chris Chibnall, though, maybe starting things off simply is the right way to go.
