Titanic

Sometimes the internet really comes through. Yesterday, the writers over at Jezebel tackled one of history’s biggest quandaries, one that’s been puzzled over for almost 20 years: “How were Jack and Rose fucking in that car?”

The query was part of the feminist site’s Titanic Thursday, which is exactly what it sounds like. Using Slack, screencaps, and one writer’s self-shot video testimonial, the Jezebel staff argued whether fictional characters Jack and Rose were doing it missionary style, doggy style, or some other more acrobatic way—not that all those ways aren’t relatively acrobatic when you consider they’re going at it while they’re packed into the back of a Model A or whatever. Joanna Rothkopf, the piece’s author, had originally believed that Rose’s steamy window hand-swipe couldn’t have happened given the positions James Cameron had placed Jack and Rose in:

“In my view, and not only my view, the hand could not have swiped that rear window with that angle and that level of flushness if they are lying Rose bottom-Jack top. I think the only way to get that is to be literally on the floor of the vehicle, which doesn’t seem right since you can see a little shadow of a head in that gif.”

After Gawker Media’s VP Of Product, Lauren Bertolini, took the question to inner-office Slack chat, the debate really got raging, in what is probably the best use of Slack of all time:

The debate really cracked open with Madeleine Davies’ groundbreaking video, which you’ll have to go over to Jezebel to watch.

In the end, all was resolved. Missionary it was. Very important case closed.
