All is not well in the DC Extended Universe, the cinematic land Zack Snyder once ruled unchecked. Following the critical drubbing of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, there are rumors that Warner Bros. wants to take a more hands-on approach with Justice League Part One, which has reportedly caused tension between the studio and Snyder. These purported concerns, along with the news that Seth Grahame-Smith walked away from The Flash movie, have fueled rumors that Aquaman director James Wan is looking for a way out of helming Jason Momoa’s first outing as the king of Atlantis. So Wan took some time away from wrapping up The Conjuring 2 to reassure fans that he’s still on board.
According to Birth.Movies.Death, Wan was supposedly feeling a “tremendous amount of trepidation” about directing Aquaman, and wondering whether the project was worth its inherent scrutiny. The director responded to that report by simply tweeting a picture of himself hanging with (a mural of) his buddy Arthur Curry, as production reportedly gets underway.
Wan seems to have no interest in taking the source of the speculation to task, and has even asked his followers to let the matter go. That’s exactly the kind of laid-back response we’d expect from the guy who’s promising a “funderwater” adventure that could offset the drudgery found elsewhere in the franchise.
