Hostiles to host a 3:10 To Yuma reunion with Ben Foster and Christian Bale

3:10 To Yuma

Empire reports that Ben Foster has joined Christian Bale in Scott Cooper’s presumably brutal Western Hostiles. Foster and Bale previously worked together on James Mangold’s 3:10 To Yuma, and they’re saddling up again for a Western where Bale plays a Native American-hating soldier whose last assignment before retirement is escorting an ailing Cheyenne chief back to his Montana reservation.

Of course, during the course of the journey, the duo must overcome the challenging landscape and hostile Comanche tribes, and Bale’s character must come to respect the chief. But since Cooper previously directed hard-knock films like Out Of The Furnace (which also starred Bale) and Black Mass, don’t expect things to feel very warm and fuzzy. Rosamund Pike will play a widow the party encounters during their journey, and although there’s potential for a love story between her and Bale’s character, everything will still generally suck, probably. There’s no word yet on what role Foster will play, but it’s unlikely that he’ll portray the Indian chief—not because that would strain credulity, but because such roles usually go to Johnny Depp.

Hostiles is currently shooting in New Mexico and should hit theaters next year.
