Bryan Fuller’s American Gods racked up a number of exciting casting announcements on its way to Starz, but few as immediately intriguing as the news that Gillian Anderson would be playing the seductive, dangerous New God Media. Media’s whole schtick is that she embodies various celebrities—most notably an exhibitionist Lucille Ball in Neil Gaiman’s original book—in her efforts to lure in and manipulate the people around her, and the show has picked a doozy for her to start with: Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie. This scene appears in the show’s fifth episode, which airs Sunday night. Starz is promising a number of other scenes this season of Anderson’s Media stepping into the shoes of the 20th century’s most iconic faces, including possible appearances as Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe.
