In the ’90s, Florida served as a hotbed for a certain, throaty type of post-hardcore, a style that soon became synonymous with Gainesville’s No Idea Records. The genre has since evolved beyond bands merely trying to ape Hot Water Music, with groups finding their own place and their own (hoarse) voice. Among them is Orlando’s Henrietta, which has released three EPs in which it dials back the palm-muted power chords, and instead puts an emphasis on warm tones and weary leads. On August 28, Henrietta will release its debut full-length, The Trick Is Not Minding, on Animal Style Records. Below, The A.V. Club premieres one of its many subtle successes, “2,000 Miles.”

Pre-orders for The Trick Is Not Minding are now available.
