MTV’s getting desperate, with the network in the process of rebooting a number of its old hits, including Daria, The Hills, Undressed, Æon Flux, and now MTV Spring Break. TheWrap reports that a slew of VJs that better include Simon Rex will be heading to Cancun’s Grand Oasis Hotel, where they’ll presumably introduce episodes of Ex On The Beach while standing by a dirty pool.

The reboot will go down from March 19 to 21, and will feature a “signature mix of high-energy performances, surprise celebrity guests, and thousands of young people from around the U.S.,” MTV told TheWrap.

These aren’t the days of The Real Cancun, though, so it’s tough to imagine what the raucous, kaleidoscopic MTV Spring Break of yore will look like in a post-Spring Breakers world. TheWrap does note, however, that “this version will also include some activism,” whatever that means. We can probably expect the majority of it to unfold on digital platforms, as the network’s been seeing some growth in that realm as its cable ratings continue to plummet. They’ll also want to create some synergy with their planned Real World reboot, which is set to premiere roughly around the same time on Facebook Watch.

One thing’s for sure: None of this will work without Daisy Fuentes.
