Baller news for Ballers fans: The Entourage-esque HBO comedy has been renewed for a second season, which means more bikinis, more champagne, and more strange statements at which the Rock can incredulously raise an eyebrow. Only three episodes of Ballers have aired so far, but according to HBO original programming chief Michael Lombardo, “The charismatic and hugely talented Dwayne Johnson, along with the rest of the Ballers cast, has truly struck a chord with the HBO audience.”
The show stars Johnson as a former NFL player launching a new career as a financial planner for football players. Although our own Joshua Alston described it as a “wish-fulfillment playground for dudes” and “hollow at its core,” the premiere was the most-watched episode of an HBO comedy since 2009. Apparently HBO viewers prefer their Girls as scantily clad extras and they just weren’t really Looking for a show about gay identity. What they wanted all along was the return of Entourage, but, you know, not the return of Entourage.
