The Godfather

Occasionally, the story of how a movie got made is just as interesting as the movie itself. It’s extremely rare, since real-life drama is never as exciting as movie drama, but if you frame a story as a light-hearted Disney tale or a horror movie, it can work just fine. Hopefully, HBO has something similarly entertaining in mind for Francis & The Godfather, a new original film about the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather.

According to Variety, the film will tell tell the story “from Coppola joining the project to the casting of Al Pacino and Marlon Brando to dealings with the real-life New York mafia.” Presumably, the hook here will be positioning the behind-the-scenes story of The Godfather into an actual mafia story, then, which is reasonably clever.

No casting details have been announced yet, but considering that HBO has to find someone to play Marlon Brando as he puts in one of the most iconic film performances of all time, it might be a little tough.
