Presumably figuring that somebody should profit off of the world’s newly resurgent interest in nuclear annihilation, HBO announced today that it’s working on a miniseries about the Chernobyl disaster, with Mad Men and The Crowns Jared Harris in a starring role. According to Variety, the series will be a five-part look at the people who stopped the 1986 nuclear accident from becoming even worse than it already was, with Harris playing Valery Legasov, the Kremlin-assigned investigator who looked into the reactor design flaws that caused the lethal incident.

Breaking Bad director Johan Renck will helm the project, from a script from Craig Mazin. Presumably, the project will be a nostalgic look back at time when the world nearly turned itself into a faintly glowing radioactive husk by accident, rather than by design.
