In the 32-year history of Late Night, the talk show’s house band has been led by two recording-industry veterans (Max Weinberg and Questlove) and one Saturday Night Live alumnus (Paul Shaffer). Beginning February 24, Late Night With Seth Meyers will split the difference: As initially tweeted by Meyers and confirmed by the show’s official Twitter feed (so, yes, social media will be as important to Meyers’ show as it was to Jimmy Fallon’s) erstwhile Trenchmouth drummer and Blue Jean Committee frontman Fred Armisen will head up the newly formed 8G Band. Here’s the first photo of the group that will soundtrack Amy Poehler’s walk to the couch in Meyers’ first episode—only one member of which knows what it’s like to spend an afternoon sittin’ on a porch drinkin’ cinnamon beer with you.
