Frank Miller has announced he's chosen the lead for his big-screen adaptation of Will Eisner's epochal masked-detective comic The Spirit. The creator of The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City, and 300 picked Gabriel Macht, best known for various TV work as well as recent roles in The Good Shepherd and the Diane Keaton/Mandy Moore vehicle Because I Said So. Samuel L. Jackson has already been tapped to play The Octopus, The Spirit's nemesis in the film, which has been scheduled for 2009 release.
